Udupi, July 30, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested a man who had been on the run for over 21 years in connection with a robbery case.
The case dates back to December 25, 2004, when Shoukath Ali lodged a complaint at the Shankaranarayana police station. One of the accused, Farooq, a resident of Megralu in Puttur, Kasargod district, had been absconding since then, failing to appear in court. An LPC (Long Pending Case) warrant had been issued against him.
Acting under the guidance of Udupi SP Hariram Shankar, Additional SP Sudhakar S Naik, and on the instructions of Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni and Circle Inspector Jayaram Gowda, a special team was formed to track down the fugitive. The operation was led by Amasebail police sub-inspectors Ashok Kumar and Chandrappa A K.
After an extensive investigation and gathering of credible intelligence, the team arrested Farooq on Monday, July 28, at Magadi in Ramanagara district.
The successful operation was carried out by SI Ashok Kumar, head constable Raghavendra, constables Parameshappa Hebasooru, Sudhakar, Darshan, Mallesh, and Dinesh from the district police office.
Farooq was produced before the court on Tuesday, July 29, and has been remanded to judicial custody.
