Belthangady, May 8, 2026: The Dharmasthala Police Station has registered a case against Girish Mattannavar for allegedly posting obscene and defamatory content on social media targeting Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
The complaint was lodged by Subrahmanya Prasad, a resident of Dharmasthala. According to the complaint, Mattannavar allegedly posted serious allegations against Dr. Heggade on Instagram, which were claimed to be false and aimed at damaging his reputation and public image. The complaint further alleged that the posts were intended to create hostility, hatred and social discord.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case on April 18 under Section 353(2) of the BNS-2023, and further investigation is in progress.
Police sources said that after learning about Mattannavar’s appearance before the SIT office on May 7, Dharmasthala Sub-Inspector Samarth R. Ganiger visited the office and served him a notice. He has been instructed to appear before the Dharmasthala Police Station within a week of receiving the notice.
