Mangaluru, Mar 28, 2026: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K. has directed officials to initiate action to cancel the licences of shops and commercial establishments found selling cigarettes, tobacco, or any smoking and narcotic substances near schools and colleges in the district.
He was speaking at the district-level NARCO Coordination Committee meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday.
The SP instructed the School Education Department to obtain reports from all School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMCs) confirming that no smoking or drug-related activities are taking place in school premises. He also stressed the need to conduct regular awareness programmes against drug abuse in schools and colleges.
Officials from various departments were directed to organise frequent anti-drug awareness campaigns among the public within their jurisdictions. Inspections should also be carried out at homestays and lodges. Coastal security police were asked to conduct surprise checks on boats, while vigilance should be maintained on parcels transported in KSRTC buses.
He further emphasised creating awareness against drug abuse in industrial units and maintaining strict surveillance at railway stations and airports.
Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr. Thimmayya informed that a dedicated counselling centre is functioning at the District Wenlock Hospital to help children addicted to drugs recover. Parents can bring their children to the centre for support.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mithun, Assistant Conservator of Forests Shashikant, and other officials were present at the meeting.
