Bus driver gets 20 years jail for raping minor girl

Mangaluru, Mar 22, 2023: A bus driver was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the POCSO Court in a case of sexual abuse of a minor girl.

The convict is Dayananda Dasannanavar (30) of Kavoor Marakada. 

Dayananda had befriended a 13 year old girl through Instagram  and had messaged her to  spend time with him on January 27, 2022.  Though the girl had refused, on January 28, he had somehow lured her and had taken her in an autorickshaw to a lodge at Hampankatta where he had raped her. Later he dropped the girl back home and had warned her against informing others. However, on the basis of the girl’s  revelation, a complaint was lodged at the women’s police station.

Dayananda has also been imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000. He will have to undergo an additional four months jail if he fails to pay the penalty. The court has also directed him to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation to the girl of which Rs 1 lakh should be provided immediately for her education and the remaining Rs 2 lakh must be kept as a deposit in her name in a nationalised bank.
