The victim, Malathi of Bejai, had stated in her complaint that Melwyn D’Souza collected Rs. 50,000 from her on May 27, 2010 stating that he will procure a visa for her son who wanted to go abroad.

However, after collecting the money, Melwyn did not keep his promise. Whenever she contacted him, he assured her that he is in the process of getting the visa.

On Friday, he asked Malathi to meet him near the Sharavu Temple. Accordingly, Malathi and her daughter-in-law met Melwyn, who was accompanied by Udaykumar, Rupesh, and Pradeep. Instead of giving her the visa, he said that he needed another Rs. 20,000, but Malathi refused to pay more money.

However, before meeting Melwyn, Malathi had gone to the Bunder police station. She had already grown suspicious and had informed the Bunder Police. When Melwyn began demanding more money, the police, who were waiting nearby, swung into action and nabbed the four. They also seized a car from the four men.

The Bunder police have registered a case and are currently investigating it.
