Mangalore Feb 11: The immensely popular Bollywood star Jackie Shroff inaugurated “Saroj,” the multi specialty hospital constructed by Shri Ganesha Bheshajashrama ® Trust, on Feb 10, Thursday at Nagavan in Matadakani, Mangalore.

Mr. Shroff, who was given a traditional welcome, inaugurated the new medical facility by cutting the ribbon and lighting the traditional lamp with other dignitaries. The movie star also inaugurated the hospital’s critical care department.


In his inaugural address, he spoke of the importance of knowing first aid, adding that first aid should be included in the school curriculum so that children can easily treat themselves or others at home in case of minor illness or injury. Shroff also said that first aid has saved a number of lives.

Revealing the fact that he harboured dreams of becoming a Navy officer in his childhood, he said that his parents had a lot of respect for doctors because they save lives. He urged doctors to take care of their patients without giving a thought to money and concluded by urging institutions, parents, and teachers to teach children first aid.


Dr. Shrinivas Achar MD, the HOD of Kaya Chikitsa at SDMCA in Udyavar, spoke about Ayurveda and Allopathic medicines and said that Ayruveda is not just the science of treating disorders, but also a complete way of life.


Jackie Shroff also felicitated Kasargod Chinna with a shawl, a peta, and a memento. Dr. N. J. Prabhu, the chairman of Saroj Hospital, honored Shroff with a shawl, a memento, and a peta.


Rajani Dugganna, the mayor of Mangalore; Dr. Sudesh Rao, the academic advisor of DGMCC; and Laxmi Kumaran of MRPL were also present on the dais. The MC was Madhu Mailankodi and Dr. Gajanana Prabhu MD, the medical director, proposed the vote of thanks.
