Boat capsize off Malpe coast; CSP rescues 5 fishermen on board

Udupi, Dec 30, 2012 : Five fishermen who had set sail on a fishing expedition from the Malpe port on Saturday night, were rescued by the Coastal Security Police through rescue boats, after their fishing vessel capsized off the coast in the early hours of December 30, Sunday.

 

 

The mishap took place after the steering lock of the boat “Priya Chetana’ broke all of a sudden when the boat was nearly9 nautical miles off Malpe coast. The boat was also damaged as it hit boulders due to the impact of heavy wind.

When the incident came to the notice of boat owner Sunil Kumar Kotian, he complained to the CSP in Malpe and the fishermen were eventually rescued with the help of CSP rescue boats. They  were  immediately shifted to Udupi government hospital and are said to be fine.

 The rescued fishermen are Ganapati Somayya Mogera (33) of Murdeshwar, Venkatesh Ramachandra Mogera (23)  and    Vasant Appu Mogera (35) of Bailoor, Suresh Babu Mogera (27) and  Ganapati Mahadeva Ambiga (26) of  Honnavar.
