Belthangady, April 02, 2022: A youth from Mudyottu in Gardadi village of Belthangady taluk who was convicted by the Fourth District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru in a case of killing his own father has been sentenced to life imprisonment. The Court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
Magistrate B R Pallavi while announcing the quantum of punishment has also recommended the Legal Service Authority to provide suitable pension to the wife of the deceased.
The convicted person Harish Poojary (28) had killed his father Sridhar Poojary (56) at his house on January 18, 2021.
Harish was in love with a woman of another caste and his father had opposed his marriage stating the daughter in the family must be first married off. This had infuriated Harish who had left home to be with his lover. He had returned after a few days and had threatend his father and eventually killed him by hitting him with a wooden club on January 18 last year. A critically injured Sridhar had died before he could be hospitalised.
Belhangady inspector Sandesh had investigated the case and had filed a charge sheet. A total of 11 witnesses were heard in this case.
