Belthangady: Man held for assaulting wife over dowry on Honeymoon

Belthangady, July 25, 2025: A newlywed man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife during their honeymoon stay at a hotel in Ujire, demanding dowry from her. The incident came to light after the wife filed a police complaint.

The accused, 24-year-old Vishwanath from Bidadi in Ramanagara near Bengaluru, had married the 22-year-old woman on May 22 in the presence of family and elders. The couple had come to Ujire for their honeymoon and were staying at a lodge.


Dowry assault


On the night of July 22, the accused allegedly consumed alcohol, demanded dowry from his wife, assaulted her, and even attempted to kill her. Following this, the distressed wife lodged a complaint with Belthangady police.

Vishwanath was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which has now remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
