Bantwal: Car gutted in fire due to short circuit

Bantwal, Jan 22, 2026: A car was completely gutted after a fire broke out due to a short circuit while it was in motion early Wednesday morning at Noodottu near Mutturu on the Bantwal–Edapadavu State Highway.

The car was being driven by Dheeresh, a resident of Edapadavu, who was travelling with his family from Bantwal towards Edapadavu. When the vehicle reached near the Moolarapattana bridge, a technical fault was noticed in the headlight. As the car approached the Noodottu area, smoke began to billow from the front of the vehicle.

Noticing this, the driver immediately stopped the car and safely evacuated all the occupants. Moments after everyone got out, flames erupted from the front of the car and quickly spread to the entire vehicle.

Local residents, upon being alerted, informed the fire and emergency services and also attempted to douse the flames by bringing water from nearby houses. Despite their efforts, nearly half of the car was completely burnt and charred, resulting in heavy losses.
