December 2: N. Yogish Bhat, the chairman of the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) and Mangalore MLA, and B. BJP leaders dream of converting Mangalore into Sentosa

Interacting with reporters in Bangalore on Dec 1, Wednesday, the BJP leaders said that the state government was considering the establishment of a golf course, an aquamarine park, and a ring round on the public private partnership model in Mangalore. The aquamarine park, a project worth Rs. 250 crore, requires 25 acres. The proposed 18-hole golf course will be in accordance with international standards, said Mr. Shetty. The BJP leaders opined that the development of Mangalore as a tourist hotspot without damaging its environmental wealth will be of great help to the local people and will boost the hospitality and hotel industry.

The BJP leaders also revealed that the feasibility study for a 100-km ring road around Mangalore is being prepared and will be submitted to the state government in March 2011. All these projects are worth around Rs. 1000 crore, they said.

Mr. Bhat also said that a Town Planning Scheme similar to the one in Gujarat will be launched in Mangalore, giving residents a chance to become partners in the development of their city.

Feasibility study of M’lore Ring Road by March

The feasibility study for the ambitious Mangalore Ring Road project ‘Mangala Corniche’ - which is expected to ease pressure on intra-city road traffic, besides boosting tourism - will be completed by March next.

Mangalore City South MLA and chairman of the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Board N Yogish Bhat, and Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraja Shetty said the ring road was proposed to be taken up on a public-private-partnership basis.

Rs 1,000-cr project

Tourism, residential and commercial hubs have been also planned around the ring road. The cost of the entire project is estimated at Rs 1,000 crore.

There is also a proposal for a town planning scheme where residents will be made partners in development, they said.

A 25-acre aquamarine park and a 18-hole world-class golf course will come up adjacent to the ring road at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

The ring road will falicitate speedier movement of vehicles on three major national highways - NH 13, NH 17 and NH 48, they said.
