Annual Dharmashree Award conferred on Dr. K. J. Yesudas

Puttur, Jan 12, 2012 : Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. J. Yesudas has won the annual Dharmashree Award, which is conferred on distinguished people in recognition of their services to society by Dharmashree Foundation of Eshwaramangala.

The award was conferred on this internationally acclaimed musician at an awards ceremony in Eshwaramangala on Jan 11 Wednesday.

K. G. Bopaiah, the speaker of the state assembly, presided. Shri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji of Shri Ramachandrapura Mutt in Hosanagara was also present. Speaking of the transendental nature of music, he stated that Yesudas is the most sublime musical personalities of India.

In his acceptance address, Yesudas compared Indian music to an ocean. Speaking about the richness of Carnatic music, he said that it has 72 independent raagas inspired by nature and has gained recognition at an international level.

 

 

 

Vishweshar Hegde Kageri, the state primary and secondary education minister, said that the award has become more prestigious after it was conferred on Yesudas. He also expressed his appreciation of Yesudas, who has worked for nearly fifty years for Indian music.

Narshi Govind Adiga, the high priest of Kollur Mookambika Temple; Muliya Shyam Bhat, the president of the felicitation committee; G. K. Mahabaleshwar Bhat, the chief patron of Dharmashree Foundation; Trustee Shivaprasad E., and many others were also present.
