Alva’s Education Foundation inaugurates 3-day Alva’s Nudisiri

Mangalore, Nov 16, 2012: Alva’s Education Foundation inaugurated its 3-day national Kannada literary meet titled Alva’s Nudisiri today.

A colorful procession comprising cultural troupes marked the beginning of the event, and this procession escorted U. R. Ananthamurthy, noted Kannada writer and Jnanapith award winner, to the venue.

Dr. Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Foundation, delivered the welcome address. K. S. Ahmed, senior poet, inaugurated the event by pouring milk over the paddy and lighting the lamp.

Speaking about the importance of teaching children Kannada, he said that if elders fail to teach children Kannada, the language will be forgotten in another decade. He also spoke of the need to bring back people belonging to the backward classes into the mainstream.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Ananthamurthy said that, not all the wealth in the world, but only people such as Mohan Alva can preserve and promote Kannada language and culture. Stating that a language is powerful enough to unite people of all sections of society, he lauded the contributions of Prof. Nisar Ahmed and Dr. Rajkumar to Kannada language and culture.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Nisar Ahmed said that language can unite people as no other factor can. He urged speakers of Kannada to use simple language for the benefit of people in the audience who come from different backgrounds. Listing reasons for the decline of Kannada, he said that Kannada people can use technology to increase the strength and power of the language.

Among those present were MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, former MLA Amarnath Shetty, Pundalik Halambi, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, and Congress MLA Abhayachandra Jain.
