Academy honours colleges coming forward to include Konkani subject

Mangalore, Dec 5, 2013 : The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and teh Konkani Prachar Sanchalan organised  a programme at  the Academy Auditorium on December 4, Wednesday to felicitate  colleges which have come forward to include Konkani  as one of the subjects to their students.

 

 

 

 

 

Presiding over the function, Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese said  the language needs the continuous patronage of Konkani speaking people lest there is always the fear of the language losing its strength.

 Stating that four colleges have come forward to include Konkani as one of the subjects, the Bishop expressed the hope that more colleges would follow suit.

On this occasion, the Bishop also lauded the contributions of the  Catholics of Mangalore Diocese as well as the Konkani journals and magazines brought out here.

 Philomena Lobo, Principal of Government B.Ed College, Nizil Pereira, President of Catholic Sabha and  Eric Correa, businessman and philanthropist were the chief guests.

St Aloysius College, Rosario College, Padua College and Pompei College who will be teaching Konkani henceforth were felicitated on the ocasion.

Roy Castelino, President of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Dr B Devadas Pai, Registrar of the Konkani Academy and others were present.

Earlier, a workshop was conducted for the  Konkani teachers of schools and colleges.
