Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 28, 2012: The Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest march followed by a protest meeting demanding the expulsion of H. Maheshappa, the vice chancellor of Vishveshwarayya Technical University, who allegedly made false claims to get the post of vice chancellor.

The protestors demanded that the governor must dismiss Mr. Maheshappa immediately because he had made false claims about passing his BE with first class while it has been proven that he got only a second class.

The ABVP protest march commenced from Hampankatta and ended at the DC’s office, and after the protest meeting, they submitted a memorandum to the governor through the DC demanding that action must be taken against Mr. Maheshappa.

ABVP State Secretary Ramesh K. and District Co-convener Mahesh M. R. also addressed the gathering on this occasion. They also displayed placards bearing demands for the immediate dismissal of the VC.

A person need not necessarily pass BE in first class to become a vice chancellor, but the ABVP wants Mr. Maheshappa dismissed because he made false claims before the search panel that selected him for the post of the VC of VTU for a period of 3 years. A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed against him in the High Court accusing him of not only falsely claiming to have passed in the first class, but also to have guided PhD students, both claims later found to be untrue.
