Mangalore, Dec 9, 2011 : Five shops and a clinic in Mangalore were robbed in the wee hours of Dec 9 Friday.
The shops burgled were Megha Fashions, a garments and laundry shop; Freeze Zone, an AC sales and service store belonging to Ivan Lobo; Indane Gas Distributers; Laxmi General Store; a veterinary clinic; and Garodi Juice Centre.
Three of these shops are located in Nethravathi Layout, Kankanaday and the others are located a short distance away.
The thieves have stolen Rs. 55,000 from Megha Fashions belonging to Sapna Jeevan, Rs. 15,000 from Indane Gas Distributors, and Rs. 4000 from Laxmi General Stores. Interestingly, the thieves stole only cash and left the expensive electronic items. The amount stolen from the other shops is not yet known.
An auto rickshaw driver who comes for work early in the morning discovered the theft and alerted all concerned.
The police, upon investigating the thefts, feel that the thieves are inexperience because of certain tools they had left behind.
The most disturbing thing about this theft is that it took place in spite of police patrol, policemen on beats, and PCR vehicles in the area.
When questioned by reporters, the police said that they had to rush to Vamanjoor because a siren in a bank at Vamanjoor went off.
