Mangalore, Jan 21, 2014: The District Administration jointly with Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and the Police Department organized the 25th National Road Safety Week at Town Hall on January 21, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank said that it is necessary to create road safety awareness during the safety week and further it must be continued in the coming days. If all the citizens follow the traffic rules strictly, then there is no need of conducting such programmes, he said.





He also said that three main aspects of road safety including quality of roads, vehicles and loyalty to traffic rules.
The government must ensure the road to be clean and safe, while the public and RTO must ensure the maintenance of vehicle and it is the duty of every citizen to follow the traffic rules, he said.
Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo said that, most of the time, the riders are killed and injured due to their own mistakes, while in some instances innocent people are killed due to the mistakes committed by others. Hence every person must take responsibility of their own safety.
IGP Pratap Reddy, SP Shanthanu Sinha, KCCI president Mohammed Ameen, Canara bus owners’ association president Rajavarma Ballal, DCP Jagadish and RTO Afzal Ahmad Khan and others were present on the dais.
The week-long road safety programme will conclude on January 27.
