Mangalore, Dec 28, 2012: Alva’s Education Foundation will  hold the 19th Alva’s Virasat, a national cultural festival at Shobhavana, near Mijar from  January 10 to 13.D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala will inaugurate the festival.


Speaking to reporters  at Press Club on Dec 28, Friday, Alva’s Education Foundation President M Mohan Alva said that the ‘Alva’s Virasat- 2013’, National award will be conferred on renowned Classical dancer Padmabhushan Dr Padma Subramanyam at a grand ceremony to be held  on January 10.

He also said that Dr Padma Subramanyam  will be taken to the dais in a grand procession at 5.45 pm that day. The function will be presided over by Dr N Vinay Hegde, President of Nitte Education Trust and Chancellor, Nitte University.


MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, former minister K Amarnath Shetty, , Dr G Shankar , President of G Shankar Family Trust, Udupi, Kannada and Samskrithi Department Secretary Basavaraju, Karnataka Bank CEO P Jayaram Bhat, Canara Bank DGM M Dasayya,  businessman Shashikiran Shetty, Sudhir Shetty and Suresh Bhandary, Mumbai will be the chief guests.
Dr Alva said the first day of Alva’s Virasat will feature ‘Raga Lahari’ by Dr M Balamuralikrishna from 7 pm to 8.30 pm. He will be accompanied by Pandit Ronu Majumdar on flute, Pandit Abhijit Banerjee on Tabla and Vidhwan Ghatam Karthik on Ghatam.


In the second session of the day, a jugalbandi including  Grammy  Award Winner Pandit Vishwamohan Bhat’s ‘Mohan Veena’, Ustad Anwar Khan’s ‘Rajasthani Folk Songs’, Ustad Gazhi Khan’s, ‘Khadthal’, Ustad Firozi Khan’s Dholak, Pandit Prithviraj Mishwara’s Tabla, Pandit Deepak Pandit’s Violin Jugalbandi will mesmerize the audience from 8.40 pm to 10.15 pm, Dr Alva informed.

The second day will feature east-west melodies by  artists like Dr Mysore Manjunath, Vakla Zimpell (Poland), Pandit Rajesh Vaidhya, Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Vidwan Arjun Kumar and Vidwan Giridhar Udupa from 6 pm to 8pm. Around 60 artistes from Konark Natya Mantap, Odisha, will present various classical and folk dances at 8.10 pm.


On the third day, there will be Kuchipudi performance by Padmabhushan Dr Raja and Padmabhushan Dr Radha along with their team from 6 pm to 8 pm. Around 60 artists of Konark Natya Mantap will perform diya dance, Gootipuva dance and Chavo dance.


On January 13, playback singer Vijayprakash and M D Pallavi will present musical nite from 6 pm  onwards followed by Malaysian fusion dance from 8.30 pm.


Mohan Alva also said that Alva’s Varna Virasat, a national-level camp for artists will be held from January 4 to January 9. The camp will see the participation of 22 prominent artists from Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and other states. A national-level painting exhibition will also be hosted from January 4 to January 13, he added.


Alva said that the 19th Virasat will be the last Virasat organized by Alva’s Education Foundation, since in the coming years, the Foundation will combine Alva’s Virasat and Alva’s Nudisiri  and present  ‘Vishwa Alva’s Nudisiri Virasat’.
