Terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri

Rajouri, June 02, 2023: A terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists during a cordon and search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The firing has stopped now but the search operation is underway.




The gunfight erupted in Dassal Mehari village area in Rajouri, officials told news agency PTI.

Based on a specific input, security forces launched a massive cordon and search operation in the forest belt of Rajouri district in J&K. The security forces managed to establish contact with terrorists and a gunfight broke out after midnight.

"In a joint operation by Indian Army in coordination with JKP, the intelligence-based ambushes noticed a suspicious movement in forest area of Dassal Gujran (near Rajouri) on the night of 01/02 June 2023. On being challenged by our troops, they were fired upon which was retaliated by our troops. Sporadic firing continued through out the night," the Army said in a statement.

"Search operations were launched on first light by joint team of Indian Army and JKP," the Army said.

Confirming the incident, ADGP Mukesh Singh told PTI that the encounter was underway.

On Thursday, security forces arrested two terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession, police said.

During a search of the duo, two Chinese pistols, two magazines and 15 pistol rounds were recovered. They were immediately taken into custody, the spokesperson said.

The arrested accused were identified as Suhail Gulzar of Frestihar Kreeri and Waseem Ahmad Pata of Hudipora Rafiabad, both militant associates of LeT, he said. A case has been registered against them under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and an investigation is underway, he said.
