Patna, Oct 31: In a major embarrassment for the Patna serial blasts investigators, a suspect escaped from National Investigation Agency’s custody on Thursday. The suspect Meher Alam escaped during questioning neat Muzaffarpur railway station. He was among the seven people detained in connection with the Patna serial blasts in which six people were killed and over 80 others injured.

Alam was being questioned about the Sunday blasts before and during Bharatiya Janata Party’s Hunkar rally in Patna when he requested his interrogators to let him use the wash room. In a shocking security lapse, no official accompanied him to the wash room and Alam used the opportunity to escape through the window.
When he did not return after a long time, the officials broke open the door to find that he was missing.

Alam was picked up a village in Muzaffarpur district after his name cropped up during blasts accused Imtiyaz Ansari’s interrogation. He had been interrogated for almost 10 hours at a NIA safe house in Muzaffarpur before he managed to give his interrogators a slip.

A massive hunt has been launched by Bihar Police to trace Alam.

Imtiyaz Ansari was arrested on Sunday while running away from the Patna railway station after a blast in a toilet shortly before the BJP rally in the city which was also addressed by it prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who is high on the terror hit list. Imtiyaz was remanded to seven days in police on October 28.
