Don’t you have any shame, terrorist: Professor’s outburst against student in class

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Mar 28, 2026: A controversy has erupted at PES University after a professor allegedly made derogatory and communal remarks against a Muslim student during a classroom session, sparking outrage among students.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday when a student, identified as Affan, sought permission to leave the classroom briefly. According to eyewitness accounts and a video recorded by another student, the professor, Dr Muralidhar Deshpande, reacted angrily and allegedly called the student a “terrorist” in front of others.

In the video, the professor is heard shouting at the student and making remarks questioning his conduct. He is also allegedly heard using the word “terrorist” and making other offensive comments during the exchange, which was partially drowned out by background noise.

The professor is further accused of making a series of inappropriate remarks, including blaming “people like him” for international conflicts and making personal comments directed at the student. The incident was captured on video and later circulated widely, triggering backlash.

Following the controversy, the university placed the professor under suspension pending an inquiry. In a statement, the university said a student complaint had been received and that the faculty member had been suspended with immediate effect until a detailed investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, some students alleged that a few individuals who supported the affected student were also suspended for unrelated reasons.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that faculty members are trained to handle classroom situations but acknowledged that there can be instances of overreaction. He noted that the professor was serving as an adjunct faculty member and expressed surprise over the reported behaviour.

The university administration said appropriate disciplinary action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, adding that such an incident was unprecedented in the institution’s history.

The National Student Union of India (NSUI) has filed a police complaint and demanded strict action against the professor, along with a public apology.
