BJP doesn’t know what to do with dissenters

Jan 07, 2016: The BJP has, so far, failed to take any stringent action against the rebels who continue to fire embarrassing salvos.

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who proved to be a major headache during the Bihar elections, has not stopped from dropping bombshells. Amidst buzz that he would be dealt with in the similar manner as MP Kirti Azad, Sinha in recent interviews, has dared that the BJP can fire him if it wants but shouldn’t expect him to go with a whimper.

“I have done nothing against the party, but they can expel me if they want. If they do expel me though, they shouldn’t forget Newton’s third law; every reaction has its equal and opposite reaction,” he said.

In recent tweets and public comments, Sinha has embarrassed the party, the latest being his defence of fellow Bihar MP Azad who has been suspended for taking on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Sinha went on to describe Azad as a hero. Meanwhile, party sources said Azad is likely to face stringent action for his graft allegations against Jaitley as the party’s Central Disciplinary Committee has found him failing in maintaining discipline and causing embarrassment to the party.

A report, which has found Sinha crossing the line, has been submitted to the party high command. “The report has been submitted and now it is for the Central Parliamentary Board to take further action. Criticism is not banned, but, a leader can’t have the license, liberty or luxury to publicly criticise the party or its leaders and cause embarrassment to the top leadership. If somebody wants to attack the party or its leaders, he should resign and speak whatever he wants,” said a party leader.

There are many others in By Kumar Vikram the BJP who have refused to toe the party line although they have not raised finger over any individual leaders.

The strong reactions from the leaders in the last couple of months have underlined a deep sense of resentment in the ranks and files of the BJP. The open show of bitterness against the leadership, defying the party’s diktat, has come at the time when the countdown for the party’s next chief has begun and election for the top post is expected at the end of this month.
