Sep 10, 2014: On the 60th anniversary of the Guinness Book of Records we take a look at some new entries from the sublime to the ridiculous

It’s 60 years since the Guinness Book of Records began telling us the biggest, smallest, fastest, slowest, longest or shortest of everything under the sun.

More than 132 million copies have been sold in upwards of 100 countries, with 50,000-plus claims in the past year alone.

Here are some of the incredible new 2015 records to celebrate the anniversary.

Smallest caravan

Website writer Yannick Read, 46, has arguably the most British of all the records in the book – the world’s smallest caravan.

The QTvan is 2.39m long, 1.53m high and 0.79m wide and has a bed, lights, TV, sink and kettle.

Tallest donkey

Romulus, a nine-year-old American mammoth jackstock donkey, measures 17 hands, or 5ft 8in.

He and his “little” brother Remus, two inches shorter, protect Cara and Phill Yellott’s livestock from coyotes in Texas.

The couple rescued them in 2012.

Combined weight juggled

Circus strongman Denys Ilchenko can pull a car with his teeth, spin five people on a pole on his shoulders, and happily lets a car drive over him.

The 29-year-old Ukrainian holds the record for juggling the greatest combined weight of 26.98kg. He juggled three car tyres weighing almost 9kg each.

Longest tongue

Nick Stoeberl realised he had a super-sized tongue thanks to his dad’s love of the band Kiss. As a child he would imitate Gene Simmons’ pose.

All grown up his tongue is 10.1cm long. Californian Nick, 24, said: “I’m not only able to lick my nose, but also my elbow.”

Largest James Bond collection

The name’s Bennett, Nick Bennett – the proud owner of 12,463 items of James Bond memorabilia.

He saw his first 007 film at the age of seven but did not start his collection until he was 28.

Nick, 47, of Leigh, Lancs, said of his record: “It’s a dream come true. Pinch me!”

Furthest arrow shot using feet

The mind boggles with this one.

Circus artist Nancy Siefker combines contortion and archery skills to fire an arrow on to a 14cm diameter target from more than six metres away.

Californian Nancy, 26, says her new tricks with knives and ninja stars are “a little more dangerous”.

Longest usable golf club

Professional golfer Karsten Maas, 46, from Denmark, managed to drive a ball 165.4m with this 4.37m golf club.

But Karsten does not use it too often. He said: “The weight makes striking the ball exhausting. Plus I don’t have a caddy.”

Biggest guitar

At 12 times the size of the 1967 Gibson Flying V it is based on, this instrument is 13.29m tall, 5.01m wide and weighs 907kg.

Students in Conroe, Texas, spent £1,975 making the body from wood and the strings using aircraft cable.

Most chilli peppers eaten

Jason McNabb - Most Bhut Jolokia chilli peppers

Ghost peppers are more than 400 times hotter than tabasco sauce and among the fieriest in the world.

But Jason McNabb still managed to eat 66 grams of them in two minutes in California.

Fred Reifsteck - Largest Motorised Shopping Trolley

You would need the world’s biggest wallet to fill this monster at your local supermarket.

It measures 8.23m long, 4.57m high and 2.43m wide and was made by American Frederick Reifsteck.

Biggest yo-yo

 

Beth Johnson from Ohio

Beth Johnson took 18 months to create her fully functioning toy.

The yo-yo is 3.65m in diameter, weighs 2095.6kg and hangs from a crane. Beth, of Ohio, USA, said she started the project to create something bigger and better than anyone else had done before.

The US heating firm owner said: “Everyone thought I was crazy but I’m not a quitter.”
