Arijit lends voice to ’Awarapan 2’ title track; comeback buzz trends online

Mumbai, Jul 21, 2026: Renowned Bollywood playback singer Arijit Singh had surprised fans a few months ago by announcing that he would no longer continue as a playback singer.

After declaring his retirement from playback singing, Arijit delighted fans by releasing the independent track ’Raina’, marking a new phase in his musical journey. He had earlier stated that he would not be lending his voice to any new film songs.

However, a new song featuring his vocals has now been released, creating a buzz across social media.

Arijit has sung the title track of Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film ’Awarapan 2’. Following its release, speculation began circulating in Bollywood circles that the singer had reversed his retirement decision.

Has Arijit Singh really made a comeback?

As rumours about Arijit’s return to playback singing gained momentum after the release of the ’Awarapan 2’ title track, his manager has dismissed the claims.

Clarifying the speculation, Arijit’s manager said reports of the singer making a comeback are not true.

Although fans have shown tremendous excitement over the release of ’Yeh Awarapan’, the manager reiterated that Arijit has not returned to playback singing.

The track is the first film song featuring Arijit’s vocals to be released several months after he announced that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments. However, his manager said it should not be viewed as a comeback.

"He is only completing projects that he had committed to before announcing his retirement. Arijit is not returning to playback singing. These are simply earlier commitments," the manager told The Print.

Composed by Amaal Mallik with lyrics by Rashmi Virag, ’Yeh Awarapan’ was released on music streaming platforms on July 21.

The song also reunites Arijit Singh with Vishesh Films producer Vishesh Bhatt. Their previous collaboration was the song ’Pal’ from the 2018 film Jalebi. Earlier, Arijit delivered several chartbusters for Vishesh Films, including ’Tum Hi Ho’ (Aashiqui 2), ’Muskurane’ (CityLights), and the title tracks of ’Khamoshiyan’ and ’Hamari Adhuri Kahani’.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqi, ’Awarapan 2’ is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14.

Apart from Emraan Hashmi, the film also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, and others.
