Mangalore, Dec 29, 2013: A 27 year old youth hailing from Jokatte in the outskirts of the city was one among two Indians and a Bangladeshi who lost their lives in a tragic mishap in the Persian Gulf on December 27, Friday.
The mishap took place when an offshore oil rig of Aramco, the state-run petroleum major of Saudi Arabia sank in the Persian Gulf. It is learnt maintenance work was underway at an oil well in al-Safaniya in Eastern province, when the accident occurred.
The deceased youth from Porkodi Jokatte is Dawood Hakim (27). It is learnt 24 other crew of the ship suffered minor injuries and were rescued.
The deceased was the youngest son of Abdul Khader and had been to the Gulf on a job assignment two years ago. Family sources said Hakim was expected to return home on a holiday in January, but fate snatched him away before that.
