Workshop on patriotism held as part of Kargil Vijay Divas celebrations

Mangalore, July 26, 2012: The Lions Club, the Centre for Integrated Learning, and the DK District Ex Servicemen’s Association jointly observed Kargil Vijay Divas by organizing a one-day Inter School Workshop on Patriotism and National Pride at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatte on July 26, Thursday. 


M. B. Sadashiv, governor of Lions Club, inaugurated the event. In his inaugural address, he lamented that the country doesn’t have a single holiday in honor of soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the country although it has a total of 29 national holidays. Simultaneously, he expressed happiness the district has made it a point to honor soldiers on Kargil Vijay Divas.

Speaking of the importance of strengthening the spirit of patriotism among the youth, he said that, although we are growing economically stronger, we hardly have any patriotic spirit.
He also released the Kargil Vijay Divas poster. 


Delivering the presidential address, Colonel N. S. Bhandary spoke about the Kargil War and about the difficulties faced by the soldiers in fighting in such cold climatic conditions. Speaking about patriotism, he said that it not only means fighting for the country, but also respecting the national anthem, bird, animal, and emblem. 


Sergeant S. M. Iron was felicitated on this occasion. An interactive session also formed part of the workshop. 


Among the prominent people present were Geetha Rao, president of Lioness Club; Dr. Arvind Rao, president of Lions Club, and many others.
