Mangalore, May 9, 2014: The DYFI, SFI and the JMS staged a protest in front of the SP office in the city on May 8, Thursday demanding the arrest of the accused in the case of rape of a minor girl of Vittal.


Addressing the protestors, Muneer Katipalla, State President of DYFI said the home minister who had visited Manipal following the incident of gang rape of a Manipal student, has however not evinced any interest in ensuring a thorough probe into the rape case of a minor in Vittal.
That the police department has failed to arrest the accused even three weeks after the incident, is a blot on the department as well as the government, he said and charged politicians of shielding the accused.
He also warned of an indefinite stir in front of the SP office if the accused were not arrested within a week.
SFI District President Nitin Kuttar, JMS District President Kiran Prabhu, Corporator Dayananda Shetty and several others were present.
Victim participates in protest: The victim girl also participated in the protest and submitted a memorandum to Puttur DYSP HD Mendonca to arrest the culprits and ensure justice to her.
Mendonca who spoke on the occasion said the Interpol has been informed to prevent the accused from fleeing the nation, He also made it clear that the police department was not under pressure to act against the accused.
