Vaishnavi Ballal wins Abacus GRAND LEVEL Championship at the National level

Mangalore, July 24: Vaishnavi Ballal won the Championship at the National level competition in the ‘Grand Level’ held at Chennai. Vaishnavi Ballal is a very proficient Abacist, studying in class VII in Sharada Vidyalaya, Mangalore. She won the Championship at the National level competition in the ‘Grand Level’- first time in the history of  Dakshina Kannada. This prize was awarded to her in Chennai by the Counsel General of Malaysia, on 17 July 2010.

 


Vaishnavi will be participating in the international level competition in Malaysia on November, 2010

The Abacus, also called a counting frame is a calculating tool used for performing arithmetic processes. UCMAS is-Universal Concept Mental Arithmatic System. This helps children enhance their learning abilities, increase their speed, attain accuracy and proficiency in all subjects. An Abacist is one who uses the Abacus. UCMAS originated in Malaysia, but has over 1,50,00 stufents in India

Vaishnavi is the only child of proud parents, Dr. Rajesh Ballal, Prof. and HOD of Surgery, Justice K S Hegde Medical Academy and Vasundara, a well known artist.  Vaishnavi is under the tutelage of Mr. K Vinayak Prabhu, a renowned teacher of Fast Arithmatic for the last four years. She is a past state champion and a national level renner-up. Enamoured by her excellent performance, UCMAS India has awarded sponsorship for her participation at the International level competition to be held in Malaysia in November 2010.

Her other interests include Bharathanatyam where she had a successful Rangapravesha about three months ago. She is a cent per center in school. She is also one of the very few female drummers. Carnatic music, skating and paining are her other constructive hobbies. Painting has probably helped her to paint well in the canvas of life and complement her mother’s painting abilities.  She is also proficient in extemphore, elocution and eassy writing.
