Ullal, Oct 28, 2025: In a heartwarming act of bravery and humanity, a group of local youths rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who accidentally fell into a 15-foot-deep open well in the courtyard of a house with no boundary wall. The incident occurred on Sunday evening near the Mariyammagoli Temple in Deralakatte Belma village.

The child, Himani, daughter of Guruprasad, was playing in the courtyard while her family members were sitting nearby when she slipped and fell into the uncovered well, which had about 15 feet of water.

Her uncle, Jeevan, immediately tied a rope around himself and climbed down the well to rescue her. However, since he did not know how to swim, he could only hold the child’s hand and stay in the water without being able to climb back up. Meanwhile, the child went underwater once but resurfaced.

Coincidentally, a group of young men from the “Team Pelathadi Friends” were passing by on their way to the fields to play, when they noticed the commotion and the family’s cries for help. One of them, Vivek, quickly tied the same rope and jumped into the water to save the child. His friends, including Dhananjay and other locals, held the rope and encouraged him from above.

Vivek managed to lift the girl safely out of the well. Thankfully, the child was unharmed and in good health after being rescued. The youths’ courageous and humanitarian act has earned widespread praise from the local community.

Vivek works as a supervisor at a gardening company.
