New Delhi, Mar 22, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings to Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing hope that the festive season brings peace, stability, and prosperity to West Asia.

During the telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Modi condemned recent attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, highlighting their threat to regional stability and disruption of global supply chains. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring open and secure shipping lanes.

“Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability, and prosperity to West Asia,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
“Condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains,” he added.

The prime minister also thanked Iran for its continued support in ensuring the safety and security of Indian nationals in the country.

This marked the second telephonic conversation between PM Modi and President Pezeshkian since the conflict began on February 28. In their first call on March 12, President Pezeshkian briefed PM Modi on Iran’s situation and shared his perspective on recent regional developments.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi expressed deep concern over the evolving security situation and reiterated India’s stance that all disputes must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

The conflict began on February 28 when the US and Israel attacked Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran targeting its neighbors and Israel. Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical route for 20% of global energy shipments—has further complicated maritime traffic, with few ships permitted to pass since the outbreak of hostilities.

Since the onset of the conflict, PM Modi has also engaged in talks with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, France, and Malaysia.
