Udupi: SI suspended over bribery charges

Udupi, Dec 11, 2023: A police sub-inspector serving Udupi district has been suspended on charges of bribery, informed SP Dr Arun Kumar.

The suspended SI is Shambhulingaiah. He was earlier working as Kota SI and is presently working in Karkala on OOD.

A social activist had complained against Shambulingaiah alleging that he had taken bribe in connection with a complaint regarding an issue pertaining to a college management board. Based on this an investigation was done and the officer has now been suspended.

The issue was pertaining to the management of a private college at Achlady following which Madhu Bhasker and Mahima Madhu Bhasker had lodged complaint and counter complaint. It was alleged that in this case Shambulingaiah had secured bribe to get a complaint lodged against Madhu Bhasker and file a B report with regard to the complaint against Mahima. It is learnt, cash was credited to the account of a relative of the officer.

A person named Dinesh Ganiga had through a video lodged a complaint and had said he was ready to furnish documents to substantiate his claim.
