Udupi: Malpe fishermen attacked, looted in Honnavar

Udupi, Oct 21, 2013 :  It has been learnt that  fishermen who had ventured into fishing  from the Malpe port were attacked by  a group in Honnavar which even damaged their fishing boats and robbed them of their fish catch worth nearly Rs 20 lakhs on October 20, Sunday.

The affected fishermen who had been deep sea fishing in 15 boats have informed their Association about the  attack.  As per information available, the fishermen of Honnavar in 30 purse seine boats surrounded the Malpe boats and resorted to such an act.

However, when locals gathered information, the attackers fled the place.  Malpe fishermen said the attackers wanted to rob one of the boats named ‘Varasiddhi’ but were unsuccessful in their efforts.

Malpe police have registered a case.
