Udupi: Illegal cattle transport foiled in Amasebail; two arrested, calves rescued

Udupi, Sep 19, 2025: The Amasebail police have foiled an illegal cattle transport attempt and rescued three male calves. Two individuals, including a minor, have been taken into custody.

The arrested are car driver Shahid Karani of Kandlur and a minor boy who was riding a bike to guide the vehicle. Acting on a tip-off that cattle were being transported for slaughter from Jaddinagadde in Amasebail, PSI Ashok Kumar and his team intercepted the vehicle near Basrur after a brief chase. Three calves were found crammed inside the car.

The driver and the vehicle were seized, while the minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Nittoor. Police have also confiscated the bike he was riding.

The seized car and bike are valued at around Rs 6.25 lakh, while the rescued calves are worth about Rs 5,000. A case has been registered at Amasebail police station.
