Udupi, Sep 25, 2025: Cyclist critically injured as Omni car rams into him in Amasebailu; police personnel, locals rush to rescue

Udupi, Sep 25: A 55-year-old cyclist, Mahabala Poojary, was critically injured after being hit by a recklessly driven Omni car near the forest department office on the Amasebailu–Haladi road in Siddapur. The car was reportedly driven at high speed by Waseem.

Poojary, who sustained severe injuries, was first taken to a private hospital in Haladi and later shifted to Manipal Hospital for advanced treatment.

As the injured man lay unconscious, bystanders feared the worst. At that moment, Shashidhar Shetty, a police personnel from Haladi en route to duty, stopped to administer first aid. With assistance from locals Nandan, Arun Shetty, and Rajesh, he rushed the victim to Haladi hospital, from where he was referred to Manipal.

The Amasebailu police have urged the public to extend timely help to accident victims, stressing that immediate first aid and quick medical attention can make the difference between life and death.
