Uday Bhembre inaugurates seminar on Konkani Ramayanas

Mangalore, Oct 2: Uday Bhembre, the Konkani writer, thinker, and activist inaugurated the 2-day national seminar on Konkani Ramayanas at World Konkani Centre in Shaktinagar on Oct 2, Saturday. This seminar has been jointly organized by the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation of Mangalore and the All India Konkani Parishad of Panajim Goa.

 

 

 

 

 

 

President of the All India Konkani Parishad Dr. H. Shantaram presided over the event. Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, welcomed the gathering; and Gokuldas Prabhu, the executive president of the All India Konkani Parishad, introduced the guests.

Mr. Bhembre delivered the keynote address in which he spoke of the importance of teaching children the values for which gods such as Ram and Hanuman are worshipped. He also said that it is important to inform children that the Nagas, which are revered as serpent gods, might have been a race of people with godly qualities.

Speaking about research conducted on the Konkani Ramayanas, he said that scholars have been researching this great work ever since the 20th century and that it has gained momentum in the 21st century. A lot of research still needs to be done on the Konkani Ramayanas, he pointed out.

R. S. Bhaskaran, the secretary of the All India Konkani Parishad, and Venkatesh Baliga, the secretary of the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, were also present for the programme.

Afternoon Session

The Saturday afternoon session will comprise discussions on literature, over which Dr. Harishchandra Nagvekar will preside. Dr. L. Sunita Bail, Dr. Soniya Sirsat, and Priyadarshini Tadkodkar will present papers.

On Sunday

On October 3, Sunday, linguistics will be the chief subject of discussion. Dr. William D’Silva will preside over this session while Dr. Madhavi Sardessai, Dr. Rocky Miranda, and Gokuldas Prabhu will present papers.

Ramesh Veluskar will preside over the afternoon session on folklore, during which Dr. Panduranga Phaldesai, Mr. Gopal Gowda, and Dr. Jayanthi Naik will present papers.
