Mangalore, Dec 16, 2012: Tulu speaking people are spread around the globe and have made significant achievements in various fields. This ancient language has all the credentials to be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, said Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education and Cultural Foundation, Moodbidri.
He was speaking after inaugurating a ‘Tulu Aisiri’ programme organised at the historic Kadri Temple premises in Mangalore on December 15, Saturday under the aegis of the Tulu Sahitya Academy and Mangalore University History Lecturers Association. Dr Alva further said Tuluvas have earned a good name for themselves in various fields owing to their adventurous spirit. The hospitality of Tuluvas too is praiseworthy, he said and at the same time regretted the fact that Kannadigas have still kept Tulu at a distance though Tuluvas have accepted Kannada as their very own language.


Prof. A Sunder, noted historian and former lecturer in Dharwad Kannada University, said a few ancient inscriptions traced near Uppinangady reveal that Tulu culture and tradition is as old as 10 lakh years.
Umanath Kotian, President of Tulu Sahitya Academy,TC Shivashankeramurthi, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, P Ananthakrishna, ex-officio Chairman of Karnataka Bank, MB Puranik, Correspondent of Sharada Vidyalaya, Prof. AV Navada, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President and others were present.
