2 caregivers arrested for abusing children at Bengaluru daycare

Bengaluru, Jul 3, 2026: Two caregivers have been arrested for allegedly abusing toddlers at an on-campus daycare centre inside the Capgemini technology park in Brookefield, police said.

The arrested women have been identified as Vijayalakshmi and Manjula. According to police, substantial evidence has been found against them, and further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

The case came to light after disturbing videos surfaced on social media, allegedly showing children as young as two years old being subjected to abuse. The footage reportedly shows toddlers being made to sit inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine while caregivers sprayed water on them with a jet spray. Another video allegedly shows children being locked inside bathrooms.

The videos triggered widespread outrage, leading to a police complaint and a separate complaint before the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. A case was initially registered against five women caregivers working at the daycare centre.

Officials suspect that the abuse may have been systematic. According to the District Child Protection Unit, around 50 to 60 children were enrolled at the facility, with 15 to 20 attending on a daily basis.

A child protection official said the alleged abuse had been occurring for some time and claimed that an earlier whistleblower who reported the incidents to the supervisor received no response and was later dismissed.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether others were involved and to establish the full extent of the abuse.

In a statement, Capgemini said the safety and well-being of its employees and their families remain its highest priority. The company said it is fully cooperating with the authorities and has temporarily closed the on-campus daycare centre pending the investigation.
