Bantwal: Auto-rickshaw driver dies after cobra bite

Bantwal, July 3, 2026: A 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver died after being bitten by a cobra at Serkala Kudkar in Kolnadu village of Bantwal taluk on Wednesday morning. He succumbed to the snakebite while being shifted to a hospital for advanced treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Hasainar, son of Sulaiman and a resident of Serkala Kudkar.

Cobra bite

The incident occurred when Hasainar was trying to lift a grass-cutting machine kept near his house. A cobra that had taken shelter beside the machine suddenly bit him.

On being alerted, local residents rushed the critically ill Hasainar to a private hospital in Kalladka. However, as his condition worsened, he was being shifted to a hospital in Kankanady, Mangaluru, where he died on the way.

Following the incident, local snake rescuer Hyder reached the spot and successfully captured the cobra that had been hiding near the grass-cutting machine.
