Mangalore Jan 5, 2012 : Train services on the Mangalore-Bangalore route were cancelled on January 4 and will also remain suspended on January 5, Saturday in view of the derailing of the Yashwanthpur-Kannur express train between Sakleshpur and Subrahamanya on the morning of January 4, Friday.
On January 5, Friday, the Karwar-Mangalore Central Express (16524) and Kannur Yashwanthpur Express(16518) and Yashwanthpur-Karwar (16515) Express train services had been cancelled. A Southern Railway Press communiqué said the Karwar-Yashwanthpur Express(16516) stands cancelled even on January 5 owing to shortage of bogies.
In darkness for 4 hours : CPI(M) leader K R Sriyan who was travelling in the train that derailed on Friday morning, says the train passengers had to spend four hours in darkness as the train derailed in a tunnel. We reached six and a half hours late at 3 pm.
He also said the place where the train derailed was very dangerous and the consequences were unimaginable had the train slipped even a little further.
Meanwhile, railway sources said the task of repairing the track has been complete by the evening of January 4, Friday using ultra-modern cranes from Hubli.
