State to confer Rajyothsava Award on scouts or guides - Acharya

Mangalore, October 3: Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya said on Sunday after inaugurating the Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Building at the District Training Centre for Scouts and Guides at Pilikula Nisarga Dhama in Vamanjoor that the state government is considering the conferring of Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards on one scout or guide achiever annually. The inaugural ceremony was organized by the DK District Association (DKDA) of the Bharat Scouts and Guides of Karnataka.

Urging the students to join the scouts or guides in large numbers, Dr. Acharya spoke of the need to promote scouts and guides throughout the state in order to create self-discipline and positive attitude among young students. He said that he will urge CM B. S. Yeddyurappa to sanction a minimum fund of Rs. 56 lakh to distribute free scouts and guides uniforms among the economically backward students during the next budget.

Lauding DKDA for promoting scouts and guides, he said that DK is not only the state’s educational hub, but also the hub of scouts, guides, NSS, and NCC. He expressed hopes that DK will continue to give top priority to the development of scouts and guides in future.

MLA Abhaya Chandra Jain inaugurated the IA Kairanna Auditorium, which is located in the same building, urged Dr. Acharya to made scouts and guides mandatory for all students in Karnataka.

President of DKDA V. Ponnuraj delivered the welcome address; and Joint District Secretary Vasudeva Boloor delivered the introductory address. Entrepreneur Dayananda Pai inaugurated the dining hall, which is named after him.

Kondajji B. Shanmukhappa, K. N. Alva, Lancy Mascarenhas, and Prasanna D’Silva were facilitated in recognition of their contributions to scouts and guides. MLA U. T. Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Nagaraj Shetty, Dr. K. R. Shetty, Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, and others were the prominent personalities present.
