Mangaluru, June 23, 2023: Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, President of the Prajaprabhutva Vedike has expressed his dissatisfaction over the manner of investigation in the Sowjanya rape and murder case.
Speaking to reporters here on June 23, Friday, he alleged that the investigation officer in the case had failed to do justice and the case has been closed by destroying evidence. Lack of proper investigation has eluded justice in the case, he alleged.
Mahesh Shetty during the press meet, cited several aspects which he described as lapses in the investigation and listed them one by one.
He questioned why the classmates of Sowjanya who were with her in the bus, not subject to inquiry.
Thimarody also said there was no information about the umbrella which Sowjanya had with her and questioned why the CCTV footage of the Prakriti Chikitsalaya near the Bathing Ghat not obtained.
He also questioned how Sowjanya’s body was found on October 10, 2012 at the very same place where the earlier day nearly 300 people had searched till midnight for her.
Stating that the innerwear of Sowjanya was not found on the day her body was found, Thimarody also questioned why the cops got a separate one from her house.
He also questioned why Sowjanya’s dress and school books were not wet and her footwear not found. Stating that Sowjanya’s watch had stopped at 2.15, he said why it was not sent for FSL test.
He also wanted to know why the chit found near the body with two phone numbers not confiscated.
Thimarody also questioned why the canine squad and finger print experts did not inspect the spot where the body was found and why the post-mortem was conducted in dim light and why the procedure was not recorded. He also wanted to know why the statement of Sowjanya’s classmate that there were four men at the spot where Sowjanya went missing not taken into consideration. Why her samples were sent to FSL after ten days, he questioned and wanted to know why the police had reported in a hurry that the injuries on Santosh Rao’s body were that of the nails of Sowjanya.
He also questioned why the “narco analysis reports of the suspects in the case namely Mallik Jain, Dheeraj Kella, Uday Jain not produced before the court.”
He also hoped Lord Manjunatha Swamy and Annappa Swamy would give justice in the case. He said a statue of Sowjanya would be built at her residence
Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi Gowda, uncle Vittal Gowda, social activist Prasanna Ravi, Advocate Ambika were present.
