Udupi, Oct 20, 2013: State Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake has said that the state government would make all possible efforts to revive the Brahavar sugar factory.
Inaugurating an agricultural fair at the Regional Agricultural and Horticultural Research Centre at Brahmavar on October 18, Saturday, he said a meeting of farmers would be convened to discuss the issue. Sorake also stated that the Rs 12 crore arrears to farmers from the factory will be repaid at the earliest and that the process of releasing the amount was underway.


On this occasion, Sorake defended the proposed Yettinahole project by saying that the diversion of excess rain water will not result in any scarcity of water in the region.
Udupi Legislator Pramod Madhwaraj presided over the function. Seeds were distributed to farmers by Upendra Nayak, Udupi ZP Chief.
There was even an agricultural exhibition which was inaugurated by Dr P M Salimutt, Special Officer, Shimoga Agriculture and Horticulture Department
Zilla Panchayat Vice President Mamatha R Shetty, Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Gauri V Poojary and several others were present.
The programme was jointly organised by the Regional Agricultural Research Centers at Brahmavar and Ullal; Agricultural Science Centres at Brahmavar and Mangalore, Cashew and Cocoa development Directorate, Cochin; Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Udupi, National Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, Mangalore; Departments of Irrigation,Horticulture,Silk, Forest,Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.
