Mangalore / Moodbidri April 20,2011: The Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Halli Kabbaddi and the state-level Kabbaddi tournament will be held at Shasthavu Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple in Badaga Yedapadavu on April 22 – 24. The tournament is open for both men and women.

The two events will be held simultaneously in a play ground adjacent to the temple. Special Kabbaddi courts have been built for this purpose. Floodlit matches will be the highlight of this sports event, which is being held in association with the Karnataka State Amateur Kabaddi Association ® Bangalore and DK District Amateur Kabbaddi Association.

The Halli Kabbaddi event is unique, presenting the typical Kabbaddi played in villages. Mundabettu Vijayanath Shetty, the chief coordinator of the event, said: “I am thrilled that the village folks have appreciated our efforts to revive village style Kabaddi and we are making elaborate plans to deliver a successful tournament. Our main objective is to give a boost to the rural community life through their traditional sporting activities.”

People from all over Tulunadu such as Udupi, DK, and Kasargod have registered for the event, which is open to people of all communities, castes, and religions. The participants are required to follow the dress code of mundus and mundas for men and salwars for women. Each team will comprise 7 + 5 players.

The Halli Kabbaddi and the State Level Kabbaddi Tournament carries separate prizes for both men’s and women’s categories. The men’s category of the state-level Kabbaddi Tournament carries the first prize of trophy plus Rs. 1 lakh, second prize of Rs. 50,000, and third and fourth prizes of Rs. 25,000 each. The women’s category of the state-level Kabbaddi Tournament carries the first prize of trophy plus Rs. 50,000, second prize of Rs. 25,000, and third and fourth prizes of Rs. 15,000. Besides, special prizes will be given away to the Best Raider, Best Catcher, and Best All Rounder.

The Halli Kabbaddi event carries the first prize of trophy plus Rs. 50,000, second prize of Rs. 25,000, third prize of Rs. 10,000, and fourth prize of Rs. 5,000. A special prize of Rs. 2,500 each will be awarded to the Best Raider, Best Catcher, and Best All Rounder.
