Senior jail official caught red-handed accepting bribe

Mangalore, January 3: The Lokayukta officials caught a senior jail official red-handed while accepting bribes from a person to permit an inmate to receive medical treatment at a hospital.

The Lokayukta team comprised Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanavar, DySP Sadananda, and Inspectors Lakshmikanth, Dileep, and Udyanayak along with 10 other Lokayukta officials. The arrested is K. B. Thippa Nayak (59), the superintendent in-charge of the district prison, and he is scheduled to be produced before the Sessions Court later today.

 

 

 

    

 

The Lokayukta police acted according to a complaint lodged by Pramod Adyar accusing the jail official of demanding Rs. 1000 to permit an inmate to receive medical treatment on Dec 29. In his complaint, Mr. Adyar stated that he had visited the jail to speak to the official concerned regarding the medical treatment of Sonkra Poojary, who has been imprisoned for the past 45 days in connection with a murder case.

The Lokayukta officials gave Adyar a voice recorder and asked him to visit the official again to discuss the bribe amount and hand it over to him. Adyar acted accordingly, facilitating the Lokayukta officials to nab the official red-handed.
