Udupi, June 2, 2013: Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake who spoke to reporters after addressing a district level KDP meeting here on July 1, Saturday has said that there is a proposal to consider Udupi a heritage town.
The minister said the KDP meeting discussed water problems as well as the problem of sea erosion. He said a sum of Rs 30 lakh has been allocated to each MLA to find a solution to the water problems in the respective constituency. A Rs 10 crore proposal has also been sent to the Union government to prevent sea erosion, he added.
He said there were plans to implement underground drainage project in Manipal too and a proposal in this regard is ready.
Sorake said Udupi district stood first in the implementation of the Sakala scheme and added that the pending applications would soon be sorted out.
On the ration card problem, he said the issue would be discussed with the respective elected representatives and a solution would be found at the earliest.
Sorake also informed that home minister KJ George will be visiting the district on June 11 in order to discuss a strategy to solve the Naxal menace.
