Mangalore, Apr 12: Speaking at a 2-day seminar titled “Urban Services in Mangalore City – Focus Solid Waste Management” organized by the social change management forum and centre for sustainable development, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya in the college premises on April 12, Tuesday, MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash said that the city occupies the second rank in solid waste management in the entire country in spite of which there is lots more to be done. He was the chief guest of the event.
Observing that the theme of the seminar was closely related to the MCC, he said that he is happy about academic institutions focusing on good governance. He also released Dr. Rita Noronha’s book “Good Governance.”
Dr. Olinda Pereira, the director of Vishwas Trust, was also the chief guest of the event. She said that the newly released book and the seminar are closely related to each other—the values in the book, when inculcated, can help one obtain solutions to the city’s problems.
Noemia D’Souza, the president of the Institute of Social Service in Roshni Nilaya, said in her presidential address that waste management is a huge problem in urban areas, and each one has to think about how it can be overcome.
Adoor Krishna Rao said that everybody must set aside some time for social work. Dr. Rita Noronha, who was the guest of honor, said that accountability and transparency in the system of governance is the need of the hour.
Dr. Ashoka B., the principal-in-charge and head of the criminology department, was also the chief guest. The valedictory ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m. on April 13, Wednesday.
