Mangaluru, March 14, 2025: A retired BSNL employee has been accused of driving his car against a motorbike rider, with whom he had old animosity, hitting and injuring the rider with an intention to kill him, in the city on Thursday.
After hitting the motorbike rider, Murali Prasad, on the 6th Main road at Bejai-Kapikkad at 8.15 a.m., the accused (retired BSNL employee), K.M. Satish Kumar, allegedly hit his speeding car against a pedestrian woman on the same road also injuring her.
A police release said that Mr. Prasad and Kumar lived in a same locality and their houses faced each other. Both were not in good terms as Kumar used to quarrel with the family of Mr. Prasad and abuse them. Earlier in 2023 Urwa police had registered a case against Kumar in connection with unnecessarily abusing the father of Mr. Prasad after brushing his two-wheeler against the father when he was walking on the road.
After Thursday’s incident, Mr. Prasad was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Police took Kumar to custody and seized his car and registered two cases against him.
A case regarding intention to murder due to old animosity was registered at Urwa police station. Another case regarding negligence driving and hitting the woman was registered at Mangaluru Traffic (West) Station.
Police who arrested the accused produced him before a court which remanded Kumar in judicial custody.
Case was registered under Sections 109 and 118 (1) of BNS. Investigation is on, the release said.
