Mangaluru, May 20, 2025: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations, on Monday, asked fishermen not to venture into the sea until May 23 due to adverse weather conditions. They also asked the fishermen at sea to return to the ports.
In its warning issued on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said squally weather with wind speed between 35 kmph and 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the coastal Karnataka till May 23.
The IMD issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall above 204.5 mm) for coastal Karnataka on May 20 and May 21 and until 8.30 a.m. on May 22. Later, a yellow alert (heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm) was sounded for the coastal belt until 8.30 a.m. on May 26.
The two administrations asked the Incident Commanders to be alert to respond to emergencies, if any. The government advised tourists and others to stay away from the beaches and rivers during the period.
