Speaking to reporters after visiting Sowjanya’s residence at Pangala in Dharmasthala on October 27, Sunday and consoling her parents, Karat said the investigation into the case has not been on the right track.  He assured Sowjanya parents  that his party was with them and they need not fear.

“The people of the state have been demanding a CBI probe, but the government was dilly dallying to take a decision,” he said adding “This case gains significance particularly in the backdrop of the information that similar such incidents have taken place in the area even in the past and there has been no proper probe. The state government should take serious cognizance of this,” Karat demanded.

The investigation into the case has already been delayed and there would be no scope for further delay. The CPI (M) would launch a statewide movement in this regard, he said and added   even talks would be held with the Chief minister to concede to the demand for a CBI probe, Karat said.

Stating that he failed to understand the reason behind the apathy of the government in handing over the case to the CBI despite much pressure, Karat said he would try to secure justice in the case by raising the issue even in the parliament.

Speaking on the occasion, GV Srirama Reddy, CPI(M) State Secretary said “no political party was showing courage to speak against influential persons. This is the cause of the delay in the probe. The state ministers are speaking in favour of those who are being blamed in the case, he alleged

CPI(M) leaders Vasantha Achary, BM Bhat, Sukanya, District DYFI President Muneer Katipalla, writerAtradi Amritha Shetty were present.
