Mangaluru, Nov 8, 2016: Taking a serious view of damage caused to traffic tubular cones installed on the city roads recently, the police have registered a criminal case against a bus driver who hit the cones near Bunts Hostel Circle on Friday.

This incident was brought to the notice of the police by a resident of Karangalpady during the weekly phone-in programme of the Police Commissioner on Friday. Having taken a photograph of the bus which had damaged the cones on Friday morning, the resident called the police during the programme and sought action against the errant bus operator. The resident said that those damaging the tubular cones should be made to pay for it as each one of these cones cost Rs. 1,500.

Agreeing with the concern expressed by the resident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) M. Sanjeev Patil told the caller that the police will take serious view of those damaging the cones. He asked the caller to send the pictures of the offending vehicle via whatsapp to the mobile phone (9480802312) of Assistant Commissioner of Polcie (Traffic). Following receipt of the photographs, the Mangaluru East Police checked and found that the bus was owned by Usha Travels. The police seized the bus and registered a case under Section 229 of IPC (rash and negligent driving) and Section 2 of Karnataka Prevention of Distruction and Loss of Property Act 1961.

Mr. Patil said that the police will soon file a charge-sheet against the driver of the bus who will then have to undergo trial before a local magistrate. The bus was operating between Neerumarga and the city.

The traffic police have to charge for such violators , but in some places especially the space adjusted is not scientific. The public usually do not wait for buses in stand to avoid them the might have crushed.
